Because of the work I put in yesterday, I can afford a day off today. It’s not done but the values have been established per the value study. Just need the details. I got an idea for a unifier while in bed last night.

My homage to Velazquez. Book is not mine.

Tulips: 2011. 35 years separate these two drawings. The one on the left I created at age 15 in 1976. The one on the right I recreated this Friday morning using my new Mungyo oil pastels (blue box). I realized I’ve always liked the composition, plus the colors are fun and remind me of a Moroccan lantern set I saw at Pier 1 Imports recently, even though I came up with the idea 3 decades ago. I think I will see if someone else thinks so. I’ll remove the masking tape and sign it. But now, to bed.

Oil pastel drawing - all my color is laid down. Now I need to “sculpt” it a little.

This was one of only a few attempts to do portraiture with chalk pastels. I found them extremely messy, got all over my hands, fingers, and floor/rug/whatever I was working on. Plus, getting a true likeness, the way I like to do it, was a fail. So, not a favorite medium. But, I wouldn’t have found out I hated it if I hadn’t tried working with it. Oil pastels are much neater.
