I don’t miss CDs, but I do miss their packaging, especially the longbox. It was the next best thing to the LP album cover, nice large artwork you didn’t need reading glasses to enjoy. Wasting paper, my ass. Anyone who has ever bought computer software knows that packaging kills more trees than anything. There was another agenda, I’m certain, that led to the demise of the longbox. And now longboxes are highly collectible on eBay. If musicians and those who package marketing for them were creative, we could make posters, liner notes, and music art viable even for those who download. I have many ideas in that area, one good one in particular. But, a generation has come and gone who has no need for the fantasy that goes along with marketing a particular artist. I don’t know, maybe that’s for the better. But some of us at least want to learn about the musicians who are creating the music we enjoy.
Here, some of my Johnny Mathis collection, with a little Manhattan Transfer thrown in. Good stuff.

Not for Me | Sammy Davis, Jr.
I miss album covers like this. But, this is exactly the kind I wanted to make.

2011 was a great year for African music but it was also a great year for graphic design and cover art in Africa. Enjoy!
Once upon a time I wanted a career as an album cover artist.

Something vintage yet readable. I want medium blue, and some of the Tumblr bkgds I wonder if it’s possible to change the color on them. Better yet, I need to learn how to make Tumblr backgrounds - that’d probably be a good income source for me!
